How to do a hanging indent on Google Docs

3 min read

Summary

A hanging indent in Google Docs is useful for formatting citations, such as in MLA or APA style, making it easier to distinguish entries in a bibliography or reference list. It enhances readability by aligning the first line with the margin while indenting subsequent lines, creating a clean, organized look.

If you only need to indent one item, the more straightforward way is to use the ruler. Select the text and simply drag the triangle and the rectangle to the desired hanging indent, and then move the rectangle back to zero.
